“POSTE-NO-CLUE!” — What happened last night between Spurs fans and Ange Postecoglou?
After Tottenham were condemned to a 1–0 defeat in Dorset last night after Dean Huijsen’s first-half header, a frustrated away end expressed their anger with gestures and chants in what was described as “direct feedback” by Ange Postecoglou.
Despite a miracle victory away at Manchester City in late November, Tottenham have now only won one from their last six games in all competitions and have won only 20 from a possible 42 so far this season.
It seems now the writing is beginning to appear on the wall for the Australian manager, with fans now beginning to call for him to leave the club despite a rapid change of fortunes from previous seasons.
When going over to the fans in an attempt to show appreciation for travelling down on a Thursday night, Postecoglou was greeted with booing and shouts of “Poste-no-clue” before then confronting fans on the front row of the away end.
His body language tried to tell fans to calm down their frustration and he was confused why some were making comments about him, however he had to be stopped by a steward before making it further towards the away end.
“The fans were disappointed & rightly so,
“They gave me some direct feedback which has been taken on board.” said Postecoglou, speaking to the press after receiving heat from the 1,000 fans who have now seen their side lose 9 of their last 13 on the road.
On what was said, he promptly commented “It’s probably not for here, mate” however Postecoglou insisted he still feels unphased from the incident.
“I’ve got no issue with it. I didn’t like what was being said though, because I’m a human being, but you’ve got to cop it.
“I’ve been around long enough to know that when things don’t go well, you’ve got to understand the disappointment and frustration. They’re rightly disappointed tonight because again we’ve let a game of football get away from us.
“That’s okay. I’m okay with it though. I’m determined to get it right and I’ll keep fighting until we do.”
Spurs have now dropped below their opponents of yesterday evening into 10th and will face London rivals Chelsea on the late Sunday afternoon kick-off live on Sky Sports this weekend. This time around, Tottenham have to get it right otherwise it could see Postecoglou go “down under”.
With Ben Davies picking up an injury on what was his 300th Premier League appearance, it will also compile further woes onto a Spurs squad who look deflated and incredibly low on confidence.
Although, some still may believe that Ange is still the best for the job, and believe it’s a process. He shares a similar record with Jurgen Klopp & Mikel Arteta where all three have 26 wins from their first 50 games in charge of their clubs in the Premier League.
It’s all about the present now however, and it’s all about whether now he can back himself on the pitch like he does in press conferences. At the start of this season he said “I always win things in my second season”, so can Postecoglou turn a sinking ship around and bring a trophy back to White Hart Lane for the first time since 2008?
